Materials Needed:
- DK yarn
- 3 mm hook (or 4 mm hook for looser stitches)
- A button
- A yarn needle
- A pair of stitch markers (or clips)
- A pair of scissors
Crochet Pattern:
Row 1:
- Make 20 chains.
- Starting from the second chain from the hook, make one single crochet in the next 18 chains.
- Upon reaching the last chain, make three single crochets in this one chain.
- Work on the other side of the chain and make one single crochet in the next 17 chains.
- In the last chain, make three single crochets.
- You should have a total of 41 stitches at the end of Row 1.
Row 2:
- Make one single crochet in each of the 41 stitches.
Rows 3 to 22:
Make one single crochet in each of the 41 stitches, but with some variations at the start:
- In the first stitch of every row, do a regular single crochet.
- In the second stitch, instead of inserting the hook into the stitch, go one step down and insert the hook there, then make a single crochet.
- Continue alternating these steps across the row.
Creating the Flap (starting from Row 23):
- Place one stitch marker.
- Count 19 stitches including the stitch where the marker is placed and add another stitch marker.
- In row 23, grab the yarn and make 2 chains. Consider the second chain as a stitch.
- From here, make one single crochet in each stitch up to the second marker.
- Chain one and turn.
Rows 24 to 26:
- Continue to make one single crochet in each stitch across the flap, chain one and turn at the end of each row.
Row 27:
- Start with a single crochet decrease, then one single crochet in the next 15 stitches, and another decrease at the end.
Rows 28-32:
Continue with similar decreases at both ends of each row, reducing the stitch count as follows:
- Row 28: 15 stitches
- Row 29: 13 stitches
- Row 30: 11 stitches
- Row 31: 9 stitches
- Row 32: 7 stitches
Row 33:
- Start with a decrease, make three chains, skip three stitches, then make a decrease at the end.
Finishing:
- Cut the yarn and fasten off.
- Randomly make single crochets on the side of the flap to even out the edge.
- Sew on the button at the place convenient for closing the coin purse flap.
