- Crochet hooks: 3.75 mm and 2.5 mm
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers

Pattern Overview
Foundation Chains: Determine length of the top. Subtract 1.5 inches from desired length to accommodate increases. Chain to this adjusted length, in example, 37 chains for a 9-inch top after subtracting 1.5 inches.
First Rows:
- Row 1: Single crochet into each chain across.
- Row 2-32: Chain 1, turn, single crochet across.
Increasing for Bust:
- Row 33-36: Begin each row with a chain and an increase (2 single crochets in the first stitch), then single crochet to end.
Tip: Place markers to customize fit based on the measurement from the top of the torso to the start of the bust.
Middle Section Setup:
- After Row 36: Place a marker for added bust width starting from Row 37.
Bust Width Adjustments:
- Row 37-40: Continue to increase at the start of each row as explained above.
Working Across:
- Row 41-84: Single crochet in each stitch across the row. Adjust the number of rows here depending on the measurement from one side of the bust to the other (bust spacing).
Beginning Decreases and Final Touch:
- Row 85-99: Decrease at the beginning of each row, then single crochet across to begin tapering the top.
- Complete till Row 130 (or required length for symmetry).
Finishing Edges:
- Apply a trim of choice. This pattern uses a 'peacock trim' (described below) but can be substituted with a simple single crochet edge if preferred.
Peacock Trim Pattern:
- Setup: Attach yarn with a slip stitch, chain 2.
- Pattern: [2 single crochets, peacock stitch (chain 2, slip stitch in both loops of the previous stitch)], repeat across the edged area.
Straps and Lace-Up Back:
- Attach yarn at the designated positions for straps (based on fitting).
- Braid yarn (cut strands to 115 inches) and attach through peacock points as straps.
- Lace the back using the braided straps in a cross and tie manner for adjustable fit.
Additional Notes:
- Always measure and fit the piece during making to ensure proper size adjustments.
- Always use a stitch marker to denote the start or end of specific rows or areas requiring increases or decreases.
