Materials Needed:
- Yarn: 4 balls of chunky yarn (100g each) for size small to medium; 5-6 balls for larger sizes.
- Hook: 6mm crochet hook
- Other tools: Needle and scissors
Ribbing (Bottom Edge):
- Slip Knot & Chain: Make a slip knot and chain 11.
- Row 1: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and remaining 9 chains (10 sc total). Chain 1 and turn.
- Row 2+: Single crochet in the back loop only across (10 sc), chain 1 and turn. Continue this until ribbing is half the waist circumference. For sample size, it’s 14 rows.
Body Panel:
- Chain 2: At the end of the last ribbing row to transition to double crochet rows.
- Row 1: Yarn over, double crochet into the first stitch and continue along the side edges of the ribbing rows. Make 1 DC per row, giving you a number of stitches equal to the number of ribbing rows (e.g., 14 DC).
Following Rows: Double crochet across the row, chain 2 and turn. Do this until the panel reaches just below the armpit. For the sample size, this is 10 rows.
- Binding off: Fasten off and cut your yarn.
Front Panel Shoulder Shaping:
- Rejoin Yarn: Skip 4 stitches from one side and join your yarn in the 5th stitch.
- Row 1 Shoulder: Chain 2, double crochet in the same stitch, continue double crochet until 4 stitches left. Chain 2 and turn.
- Next Rows: Double crochet across only this shoulder section (total 9 rows for shoulder).
- Last Part: Chain 2 at the beginning of the last row, double crochet only 8 stitches (for shoulder width).
Repeat: Repeat for the other shoulder.
- Bind off: Cut and fasten your yarn.
Back Panel:
- Repeat: Same as the front panel, but do an extra row (11 rows in total for height) and just one row for each shoulder, as the back panel is made with less shaping.
Joining Panels:
- Align Panels: Place front and back panels with right sides in.
- Sewing Shoulders: Sew the shoulder seams together with the needle.
- Sewing Sides: Sew along the sides from the bottom ribbing up to the armhole.
Armhole Ribbing:
- Rejoin Yarn: Rejoin your yarn at the seam of the armhole.
- Chain 5: Chain 5 to start.
- Row 1 Armhole Ribbing: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and next 3 (4 sc total).
- Slip Stitch: Slip stitch next 2 stitches on armhole edge (sc from body).
- Turning: Chain one, turn and single crochet in the back loop only across 4 stitches.
Continue: Continue around the armhole, working 4 single crochets back loop only in rows, slip stitching to the armhole edge.
- Joining: When the ribbing meets itself, fold right sides in and slip stitch to join.
Neck Ribbing:
- Rejoin Yarn: Join your yarn at the neck seam.
- Chain 5: Chain 5 to start.
- Row 1 Neck Ribbing: Single crochet in the 2nd chain from hook and next 3 (4 sc total).
- Slip Stitch: Slip stitch next 2 stitches on neck edge.
- Turning: Chain one, turn and single crochet in the back loop only across 4 stitches.
- Continue: Continue around the neck, repeating the same steps as the armhole.
- Joining: Fold right sides in and slip stitch to join.
Final Touches:
- Weave in Ends: Hide and secure all tail ends with the needle.
- Block as needed for finishing look and fit.
